The Start

The Trans-Tasman Yacht Race starts on Sydney Harbour with staggered starts. Smaller yachts leave first, followed by progressively larger and faster boats, all set with the aim of delivering the fleet to Auckland as close together as possible after the ocean crossing.

The Course

After clearing Sydney Heads, the fleet commits to the Tasman Sea, across the ditch.

Crews face a true blue-water passage before making landfall in New Zealand, rounding Cape Reinga, the northern tip of the North Island, where the Tasman meets the Pacific. From there, yachts turn south and follow the coast toward Auckland.

The Finish

The final miles unfold through the Hauraki Gulf, past Rangitoto Island and into the channel before entering Auckland Harbour. The finish line is set directly in front of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, marking the end of a classic trans-ocean challenge.
